A portrait of Sharples

Sir Pita Russell Sharples KNZM CBE is a New Zealand Māori academic and politician, who was a co-leader of the Māori Party from 2004 to 2013, and a minister outside Cabinet in the National Party-led government from 2008 to 2014.

Sharples led Haka dance experts and Maori language and culture experts to visit Xinming. He highly praised Xinming’s exploration and contribution to Maori language and writing. When he watched Xinming’s series of works “Ah! Pacific, please give my words back”, he said: “It’s really exciting. Xinming’s works should not only be seen by New Zealanders, but also by people around the world!”

A portrait of Sharples was presented to him, created by Xinming.
