Ten years ago, I was fortunate to encounter TAHI in New Zealand and learned that Master Xinming had devoted 30 years to the study and creation of Chinese calligraphy and painting, tirelessly teaching children Chinese culture and calligraphy without interruption.

Xinming’s dedication to preserving and passing on Chinese culture and calligraphy deeply moved me. As a mother, I made a wish to seek the heart prints of calligraphy and painting for the children of China, and after eight years, this wish was fulfilled when I became a disciple and began my journey in calligraphy. Through in-depth study, I came to realize the profound roots of Chinese calligraphy. The grandmaster of our lineage, Li Ruiqing (Qing Dao Ren), was a distinguished master who comprehended 3,000 years of calligraphic tradition and mastered all styles. He advocated: “In learning calligraphy, one must spiritually travel through three dynasties, immerse oneself in the Qin and Han, integrate seal script into stele inscriptions, and stele inscriptions into regular script.” For decades, Master Xinming has followed in the footsteps of the grandmaster, passing on the heart of our tradition.

After years of dedicated research, the master boldly proposed that “learning calligraphy should begin with the universal spiral energy field symbols” and documented this insight in the newly published [Calligraphic Symbols of the Universal Spiral Qi with Demonstrations]. The book illustrates how spiral energy field symbols have been ubiquitous from the time of the Three Sovereigns in ancient times to the present day. “Zhuan (seal script) means to transmit and convey,” and Master Xinming has inherited the calligraphy tradition of “learning from the highest standards,” bringing these discoveries to light and presenting them to learners in a newly edited and designed form that is easy to understand.

Upon its publication, the disciples at the Caotang in Beijing cherished the book as a treasure, realizing that the origin of Chinese calligraphy is as ancient as the birth of writing itself. Children no longer practice strokes in isolation; their learning of calligraphy is now rooted in a thousand-year-old tradition and connection. Master Xinming guides students in a progressive manner, starting from brush techniques, structure, and philology, placing calligraphy within the broader context of traditional Chinese culture and aesthetics, eventually leading them to a state where both brushwork and moral character are refined and united. As the saying goes, “The brush reveals the person, the brush reveals the heart.” After years of studying under the master, I am even more convinced of Master Xinming’s teaching: “Learning calligraphy is about illuminating the heart and realizing one’s nature. It is a noble path for cultivating virtue.”

Xinming’s students big win in China International Calligraphy and Painting Association 2018

In 2018, Six of Xinming’s students won first and second prizes in the International Calligraphy Competition, for 100,000 people, organized by the China International Calligraphy and Painting Association.

Xinming was awarded the title of Outstanding Instructor.
